Glass widia drill bits with spherical tips to make fractures accessible in a controlled manner for controlled drilling without the risk of damaging the PVB layer

When a crack in a windshield is not sufficiently accessible for injection of UV resin, it may be necessary to make the crack deliberately accessible by drilling. For this purpose, special glass widia drill bits with the recognizable rounded head are used.

These drill bits are designed so that the diameter of the rounded end is smaller than the thickness of the outer glass pane of a laminated windshield. This limits the risk of drilling too deep and damaging the PVB layer with damage that is irreparable and makes the windshield unsuitable for repair.

Safe method

  • Drill at low speeds and with light pressure
  • Stop drilling regularly to check the depth
  • Use a scraper blade to feel whether the rounded end has just disappeared below the glass surface
  • As soon as the little ball can no longer be felt, stop drilling immediately

By using this controlled method, the drilling process remains safe and precise, while the crack becomes sufficiently accessible for the UV resin to flow completely into all fine branches of the crack.

Advantages

  • Increases the accessibility of difficult cracks
  • Minimizes the risk of damage to the PVB layer
  • Makes complete resin filling possible
  • Supports a durable and technically correct repair
